Custom Fit Flip Flops

Custom Fit Flip Flops at Gav Noble Physiotherapy in Lisburn

Custom fit flip flops are supportive sandals designed to give your feet more structure than standard flat flip flops. They can be useful for people who want comfort and support during warmer weather, holidays, time around the house, or periods when they are not wearing trainers or supportive shoes.

At Gav Noble Physiotherapy, we often see people who do well with orthotics in their shoes, but then their symptoms return when they spend more time barefoot, in slippers, or in unsupportive summer footwear. Custom fit flip flops help bridge that gap.

The Problem

Why Standard Flip Flops Can Be A Problem

Traditional flat flip flops usually offer very little arch support, cushioning or heel stability. This can increase stress through the foot, especially if you already have heel pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles pain, knee discomfort or foot fatigue.

Custom fit flip flops are different because they are designed to support the foot rather than simply protect the sole from the ground.

What We Help With

Who Can They Help?

Custom fit flip flops may be suitable for people with:

  • Heel pain or plantar fasciitis
  • Flat feet or over-pronation
  • High arches
  • Achilles tendon discomfort
  • Foot fatigue when walking or standing
  • Knee, hip or lower back symptoms linked to foot mechanics
  • Symptoms that worsen when barefoot or wearing flat summer shoes

How Do Custom Fit Flip Flops Work?

The aim is to provide support in a sandal-style design. Depending on the product and your assessment, this may include:

  • Arch support
  • Heel cushioning
  • Improved pressure distribution
  • Better foot alignment
  • More comfort when walking or standing
  • Support when you are not wearing trainers or orthotic insoles

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy advises that people with particularly high or low arches may benefit from insoles or orthotics, especially when managing heel pain or plantar fascia-related problems.

Assessment

Assessment Matters

Not everyone needs the same level of support. Before recommending custom fit flip flops, we assess your symptoms, foot posture, walking pattern, footwear, activity levels and goals.

They are not a magic wand for foot pain, sadly we have not found one of those yet, but they can be a practical way to support your feet during daily life, especially when normal orthotics are not suitable because you are wearing sandals.

Common Questions

Custom Fit Flip Flops Questions

Are custom fit flip flops the same as normal flip flops?

No. Standard flip flops are usually flat and unsupportive. Custom fit flip flops are designed to provide more structure and support.

Can they help plantar fasciitis?

They may help reduce stress on the heel and arch, but plantar fasciitis often also needs stretching, strengthening and activity advice.

Can I wear them all day?

This depends on your symptoms and tolerance. We will advise how to build up gradually.

Do they replace my orthotics?

Not necessarily. They are often used as an additional option for home, holidays or warmer weather.
